Customers often ask me whether the inside and outside of the cake have to “match”: does a chocolate cake have to be covered with chocolate or other dark-colored frosting? Must a vanilla cake be white on the outside? The answer is no! The inside and outside can be whatever you want them to be!

Case in point: Jordan’s wife loves Halloween and everything spooky but making a cake that was so dark on the outside seemed out of season. So we thought what better opportunity than to make her a birthday cake with a Halloween surprise on the inside? On the outside we chose a rose-colored watercolor finish with gold drip, while on the inside we have chocolate cake marbled with orange and filled with Halloween-themed sprinkles and M&Ms. See my stories if you want to know what the cake looked like when it was cut open 😃
